Second installment in Ginnie West adventures

“At the end of the day, you only have your knowledge and your word. Make sure they mean something.” Ginnie West goes on another adventure in this second book of the series. This book picks up right where the first book left off but can actually be read as a stand-alone since it’s a completely different journey from the first book. The readers get more from Toran’s and Tillie’s point of view in this book. Toran, Ginnie’s twin brother, is Ginnie’s complete opposite; he’s rational, thoughtful, calm, and uses his intelligence instead of emotions when backed into a corner. Unfortunately he gets targeted by the school bully and Ginnie jumps in to help him. Ginnie is impulsive, whiny, and often snarky with her sharp tongue but has a good heart and is fiercely loyal. Toran and Ginnie, along with their best friends Austin and Tillie, try to figure out how to retaliate against the bully’s tactics when everything they’ve planned goes sideways and they’re deeply implicated in something they’re not prepared for. The difficult topic of domestic violence is addressed here along with what forgiveness can look like through the eyes of a twelve year old. Ginnie is a bit of a difficult heroine to understand and like, but she does mature greatly toward the end of the book (like she did in the first book). The wonderful supporting characters, like their dad, Uncle Jake, Uncle Ben and Tillie’s mom, really bring forth the atmosphere of love and acceptance the West household is known for. I received a copy of the book from the author/publisher via JustRead Publicity Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
