Tribal Tears and Triumph tells the story of how a captive prince became the most powerful emperor who defeated all tribal resistances and established his empire. Prince Ano, later Emperor, grew up as a captive in the fortress of a brutal tribal emperor named Zebadiyah, who killed Ano's father and imprisoned European missionaries and explorers in the mid-19th century. Zebadiyah's reign of terror ended when European forces raided his fortress to rescue the Europeans. Months prior to the attack, the captive prince Ano escapes and returns to his tribal homeland to reclaim his rightful throne. He expands his kingdom by pillaging Guyasuhi land and selling Guyasuhis as slaves, creating a lasting rift between the Guyasuhi and Asuhian tribes. The intertribal conflict continued to boil into modern day, following the powerful comeback of the Guyasuhi for political, economic and cultural independence.
