Originally published in 1947, The Trial of S ren Qvist has been praised by a number of critics for its intriguing plot and Janet Lewis's powerful writing. And in the introduction to this new edition,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Another little jewel of a book from a wise and wonderful historical suspense novelist who has not received the attention she deserves. Ms. Lewis knows how to create sympathetic and thoroughly convincing characters of long ago times without any need to endow them with 20th or 21st century sensibilities. She has an exquisite feeling for time and place and a style which is at once understated and exciting. She bases her novels on legends--in this case, from 17th Century Denmark. For all who respond to this one, I can also recommend "The Wife of Martin Guerre" and "The Ghost of Monsieur Scarron."
