Tri-Medial Working in European Local Journalism

The slogan "One Content, All Media" mirrors the challenging working conditions for journalists in Europe: The digitalization of the production of media and the diversification of the publishing platforms have led to basical changes in the working situation of journalists. Content is produced only once and then exploited on distinct medial publishing platforms via digital technologies. Thus, journalists need to acquire multi-medial competences to keep up with the rapid transformation of the media industry. Facing these challenging qualification demands to multi-medial working, a European network of twelve training institutes, media companies, associations and social partners has been generating a concept of journalism tri-medial further training with their project TRIMEDIAL since October 2004.Within the framework of TRIMEDIAL, a pilot study was carried out, dealing with the journalists contemporary working situation in the countries of the project partners and in Switzerland, Belgium, Scandinavia and the UK, with their individual requirements for tri-medial qualification and with already existing multi-medial curricula all over Europe. The results of this pilot study the project partners have now to hand are summed up into the documentation "Tri-Medial Working in European Local Journalism".
