beautiful photographs and more

Divided into vague chapters, this book is loaded with remarkable photographs, but also offers interesting information, though it is by no means a textbook or science guide. Fun facts are illustrated, evolution and origins are discussed. I really enjoyed the Form and Function chapter, which separates comparative photos into sections on trunks, roots, leaves, etc. There are usually one to three pictures on a page, so it's not comprehensive, but it is fascinating and beautiful. The Diversity and Design chapter introduces concepts of tree structure and variability, then offers pages and pages devoted to individual species, with a wealth of interesting illustrations and photos. A section at the end shows a wider selection of variations of shape, leaves, flowers, genera and biomes. This is followed by a glossary and a good index. More than a photography book, though the photographs are the star, chapters include: A World of Trees, Form and Function, Diversity and Design, Communities of Life, Trees and the Human World, and An Indispensable Resource. Wonderful book.

This book is very informative for people who do not know a lot about trees and those they do know. The illustrations in this book are vary helpful to explain and clarify what the book is talking about. I would recommend this book to anyone no matter how much they know about trees before reading this. the pictures are some of the best i have seen published in any book.

This is a great book about trees. It is very informative with beautiful pictures. I couldn't expect more from a book about trees. If you love trees, you will love this book. I buy and read a lot of books, this one is outstanding!

The world of trees, masterfully presented

This is a book I've been waiting for - a general book on trees that's both informative and enjoyable. It covers virtually all aspects of trees, from their biology and ecology to their uses in human society, and does so extremely well. The text is packed with information that's presented lucidly, even elegantly. There are literally hundreds of beautiful photographs, as well as many attractive and effective illustrations. The page layouts are also clear and appealing. In a word, this is a gem of a book.
