spanish influence

I really enjoyed this book, especially the Spanish parts. It was such a relief for me to read a Dodd book that was not in England or present day. The story was a little sketchy sometimes, but it was definitely a book that I didn't put down until I finished it.

Excellent Old West

This was a great story as well as a very interesting background into the early days of California prior to the annexation by the United States. Katherine Maxwell traveled to California from Boston to be wed to Tobias a man she dealt well with and offered her a chance to escape from family bondage. Fate had it that her marriage would be short lived and, one week after the wedding, Tobias was murdered. His best friend Damian de la Sola would make sure that Katherine would be looked after, and he brought her to his hacienda and let her mourn there. Damian did this, not only for his very best friend, but for himself, as he had known from the moment he first saw her coming off the ship that he would burn for his best friends wife. Being the gentleman, he would have to hide his true feelings, and he would honor her year of mourning. He was honor-bound to protect her but would be relentless in her pursuit before he would let her leave. Finding out that it was the secret of a fabled treasure that Tobias had been killed for, the 'treasure of the Padres' They would both follow their destinies and find that the real treasure was their love for one another. I enjoyed the characters and their personalities. Katherine, though reeling from having her husband murdered in front of her, was really quite feisty when she wasn't fainting at the sight of blood. Damian was the very hot, arrogant, and very sexy Spanish lover. The scene between her cousin, and the two of them after they married is priceless! Super story. I highly recommend this book.

I loved it!

This is one of the best books I have ever read. There was great chemistry between the hero and heroine, and a wonderful story between them. I have always loved reading Christina Dodd because she always writes great books.

Great Book!

The hero, Don Damien De La Sola, is a hearthrob hero to die for. You will fall in love with him ten pages within the book. And Katherine is a typical sensible heroine typical in Christina Dodd's books. There was good chemistry between the hero and heroine, and their love was so real. Anyone considering this book, i'm telling you, you will not be dissapointed in this one.
