With haunting art and story, Jeanette Wright, M.S., A.T.R., draws the reader into her subconscious struggle to make sense of a life bewilderingly altered by the death of her mother when she was three. Through her gallery of drawings, she shows us how she was able to retrieve images from her own history, unavailable through conscious memory, which led to the emergence of a more affective and cognitive understanding of her life's experiences. As an adult, Jeanette engaged in an inner monologue with her mother. Drawing images from a visual interior landscape connected her to her mother and, at the same time, to a life marked by her absence. This effort culminated in The Mother Monologues, a collection of thirteen letters written to her mother over the course of several decades. Wright is a former associate tenured professor at Drake University and is currently in private practice as a psychotherapist in Des Moines, Iowa.
