On Mars, Juliet Carossa awaits the arrival of her husband, wealthy investor Tristan Carossa. She hopes their long-anticipated luxury vacation will give them a chance to repair their troubled marriage. But moments after Tristan materializes in the transporter, it malfunctions, spitting out a second copy of Tristan identical to the first.

Tristan is outraged that the new technology went wrong in such a spectacular fashion. But at least ITI, the corporation that developed and operates the transporter, whisks the duplicate out of sight quickly, to be dealt with however they see fit. Tristan puts the matter out of his mind and focuses on wooing his beloved wife, desperate to close the distance that's opened between them.

The next he's a prisoner, accused of being an inferior, incomplete copy of the man escorting Juliet away. But before ITI can put him back into their machine, never to emerge, an unexpected ally helps him escape. She sends him to seek refuge with Juliet, the only person on Mars both able and willing to help him stay out of ITI's clutches.

As Juliet spends time with each of the two Tristans, her conviction grows that both of them are her husband, the man she loves, complete with the body she adores and identical memories of the life they've shared. And she learns that two passionate, fiercely devoted husbands can be more than twice as good as one. Now she just has to keep their jealous rivalry from destroying the bonds growing between the three of them before they can blossom into a relationship better than any she's ever known.

Then the woman who freed the second Tristan reappears, asking for help in a dangerous, vital mission. Juliet and both Tristans have to decide if they're willing to risk the future of their precious new threesome in an attempt to bring a terrible secret to light. Because ITI is willing to do whatever it takes to prevent the deadly truth about the transporter from being revealed to the world.
