Trailer design

This is by no means a beginners book. You have to have prior experience in and around trailers. I did find this invaluable for what was given and have recommended this book many times. You have to come to this book with welding and fabrication experience. This is where the rubber meets the highway and poor welding will get you in trouble and the guy behind you in the hospital or worse. Read and do the math, it's high school level, if not have someone do it for you. If you plan to pull weight behind you, know what you're doing. this isn't for those that want to run the flag up the pole and see who salutes it. I'd like to see the author do a companion series on You Tube or DVD to to give his work some legs for those without experience.

If you are going to buy a trailer - GET THIS FIRST

Answers questions that I did not know - I needed to ask. And I have built & modified many small trailers in the last 20 years.Clear and to the point - and the drawings & photos make the points even clearer.

Trailers:How to Design and Build (Basics) Volume 1

Excellent Book! Very informative and detailed

Excellent design manual for trailers

I have volumes 1 and 2 and am anxiously awaiting for volume 3. I have used the information in these two books to evaluate two trailers I already have, and to get ideas on how to improve them. If you are looking for a pre-designed how-to, or a kit, these are not the books. If you are looking for a better understanding of trailer design, without getting a mechanical engineering degree, these are great. For a profession, I work on computers. For fun, it's blacksmithing, welding and woodworking. I have found these helpful for more than just trailers...

A fun approach to designing trailers

I obtained volume one at the end of 1997 and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a very well written and easily understood technical manual geared towards designing your own trailer. It is very comprehensive and provides the technical details needed to design a trailer. I just recently procured volume two and came across the review by eckelberg@ctctel.com. I am mystified by his review. It is quite apparent that this person did not understand the essence of the book that he/she purchased. The theme of both volumes 1 and 2 is to provide one with a technical background to properly design a trailer. The object of both books is to aid in the design of a trailer, not to provide one with designs that already exist. It was obvious that eckelberg@ctctel.com was disappointed by the book due to the fact that he/she was looking for a book of existing designs of trailers. Unfortunately if eckelberg@ctctel.com had read the title, he/she would have know what the book was about since the title conveys "HOW TO DESIGN AND BUILD".
