Developed by America's pioneer women in the early 1800s, candlewicking used only the simplest of materials readily to hand -- muslin, cotton, and the thread from which it derived its name, the cotton twist yarn used as a wick in candlemaking.Traditional fabrics are still used today, though now they are of better quality and the variety of threads available is extensive. The traditional colour of cream is still most favoured, although some subtle colours are now creeping in.The twenty-four designs in this book by an Australian teacher of the art are divided into groups suitable for the family room, the living room, the sewing room, the bedroom and the garden.
