Good book on herbs and what they are used for.

I got this book free at the health food store by buying two bottles of Gaia herbs. It's a good book, easier and more modern than Back to Eden for sure. The only thing that bugs me and I know they can't help it is that every single page has the footnote disclaimer blah blah blah not intended to treat, cure, or prevent. What has our society come to where we have to print something like that on every page just to appease the FDA and big pharma? Obviously the herbs are intended to treat and cure else why would people fork out the money and take them? Still a worthwhile book.

The Best Herb Book

When I compare this book to my beloved hardbound copy of Back to Eden, or John Lust, or the other venerable reference tomes we looked to back in the 60's and 70's, even a diehard Earth-Firster, such as I am, is forced to admit to the reality of scientific progress, when reverently and mindfully achieved. Gaia Herbs' dazzling line of herbal remedies is delineated, described, and justified in this comprehensive 200 page manual - an essential document in herbology. Gone (for now, at least) are the days of painfully concocting generalized herbal remedies from a set of instructions. (I can remember trying to blend a poultice made of goldenseal and beeswax over a quarter century ago - I remember the stench of the fumes from cooking this mess up - anyway, they don't have a t-shirt for that one.) This svelte volume covers an incredible amount of turf - a remedy for virtually every physical, and then some, condition is detailed in full in over sixty potent formulas combining both occidental and oriental herbs. The structure, function, biological interrelations, proportions of the herbs applied in the remedies are explicated. Although most of this info can be found on their website, I like mull over this type of information and have it ready-to-hand away from my computer. For state-of-the-art herbal remedies: the one reference you need.
