On July 26, 2011, 45 year old Tracey Ann Richter was arrested for the murder of 20 year old Dustin Wehde - a crime she is alleged to have committed nearly ten years earlier.Initially, Richter was hailed as a hero. Her story was shared nation-wide in 2002, when she appeared on "The Montel Williams Show." With her husband at the time of the shooting holding onto her hand, she tearfully shared the story of how she bravely defended her family during a home invasion."I did what I had to do to protect my family," she proclaimed calmly, as Williams and his audience applauded. The story she told on the show was the same one she told law enforcement in December 2001 - that Wehde and another, unknown man broke into her home and attacked her. She managed to secure a handgun, which she used to shoot Wehde multiple times. The other attacker fled before the police showed up, she claimed. But in killing Wehde, she said she had managed to save herself and her three children. However, as the investigation into the case continued over the course of the next ten years, evidence was uncovered by law enforcement that indicated that Wehde's death was no accident - in fact, the slaying appeared to have been specifically planned and executed by Richter herself in a plot to frame her ex-husband.
