Book Overview

In this book I advance an argument concerning the nature of the deep ecology approach to ecophilosophy. In order to advance this argument in as thorough a manner as possible, I present it within the context of a comprehensive overview of the writings on deep ecology.

Excellent

Fox's book is academic but nevertheless a compelling introduction on behalf of transpersonal ecology. The book was first published in 1995. This was about the same time that ecopsychology began to emerge as a legitimate force in psychology. So in a sense, Fox was writing from the larger umbrella of transpersonal psychology under the rubric of ecology. I don't think it a major leap to assert that Fox is one of the Fathers of ecopsychology although he does not use that term in his book. Yet one can discern many of his themes by other authors writing in the ecopsychology model. Fox also brings a comprehensive knowledge to his discipline and traces each model to its historic birth, showing how each developed, and grew with each succeeding contributor. This alone is worth the price of admission. Moreover, Fox offers powerful arguments against anthropocentrism without too many holes. His aim, of course, is to reintroduce the human psyche to its own matrix of well being, in, and through the body of nature. Great book!
