Authentic and Touching

I ordered this book from the Scholastic book flyer back around 1977. One day I left it out on the table, and my mother who was around 51 at the time picked it up and read it that night. she talked to me about it in the morning and she said she found it emotionally moving and authentic. I don’t remember a lot of the story but I thought it was about a sister with a sister who had a terminal illness or was in a wheelchair or something, and a lot of it was just the talking about life they did. I was young when I read it, but I remember it being emotionally compelling. My memory for detail does not serve, however because what I’m reading on other sites is that she had a stepbrother, not a sister. She also had cerebral palsy which I guess I did not remember, or perhaps did not understand; perhaps I thought she had muscular dystrophy. It would be interesting to reread this book and then contrast it with out of my mind by Sharon Draper. Completely different books, of course, but both about teen girls with CP.
