What a great relief from the formal guides that go on and on about the museums and statues and where the Hermes shop is. We got an excellent guide book by Brazilians but it had nothing that your really wanted to know. This book really reveals the soul of the city and the essence of each area with really nitty gritty details about the funky and the fine things in each. After reading the other book I felt like, oh this is nice but had no real idea of what I might expect. This book has given us the flavors, and the magic of each part of the city. I was not really too keen on going to Sao Paulo until I read this book. And it is not just for the young, hip, club hopper, I am 65 and completely related to it. This might be the best guide book I have ever found. Kudos to the author. Girl, go other places and write more!
Don't forget about their website, too!

[...] It is unbelievably comprehensive with many tags for references and similar postings. I wasn't able to purchase the book in time for my trip, but the website was just as useful.

This book was a fabulous guide to Sao Paulo, a beautiful city with so much to do and this book will help you decide how to allocate your time. Paulista's are industrious AND friendly, go there and see for yourself. I had no problems what so ever and will return as soon as possible.
Finally! NOT Another Basic City Guide!

I usually go with the standard "L.P." books when going overseas; the one I used for Dublin could have been replaced by Tourism Ireland. I decided I was going to go on my adventure either without a book or with a different publisher. Low and behold, a friend of mine invited me to go watch some Brazilian dancers at some art gallery in L.A., and to my excitement, it was actually a book release party for this book! I wasn't able to talk to the author, but I was able to talk to some people who were actually from Sao Paulo and totally backed the book. I bought it, and it was the greatest travel guide I've ever picked up. Not only does it look really cool and fit well in my backpack, but it's also not full of the basics you can just find on the Internet. To me, this book showed me the REAL Sao Paulo, for sure. The food and ambience of restaurants were just as described, and they definitely made me feel like I lived in the City--not just visiting. I really hope they continue the "Total" travel books, because if they give info like this one, I'll never pickup another L.P. again!Total Sao Paulo: A Guide To the Unexpected
Awesome guidebook for the city you really want to experience not just see

This guidebook is amazing! I was sick of the boring guides out there and wanted something that was more tailored to my creative interests, and this hit the spot. The photos got me! You can really see what you're going to before you're there, and the maps are beautiful. It's all written in a conversational tone and you feel like your new hip Brazilian friend is showing you the real city. Totally recommended and a good buy.
