It wasn't what I expected. It seemed part memoir, part polemic, and part science. I think I was expecting "use this technique to excel." I was a little cold toward the 'Spiritual Considerations' in section 2 initially but warmed to it more as I understood the book's intent and the author's application. I'd say it's a good read for those already grounded in the arts who want to apply themselves more energetically to their pursuites.
Not a System

I thought the book intended to introduce a system but it's more of an approach. This worked out okay for me and I learned some useful stuff. I liked the section describing the "component skills" or things a martial artist should do to be phsyically well-rounded. I also liked the authors' description and testimony regarding creatine (since it's such a controversial subject). My instructor read it and liked it too.
Like the Sport Science Section

I like the content. I've done cardiokickbox and stuff the last five years and enjoyed the section on sport science and heart-rate based training. Some of the photos were a little dark and I noted a few typos but I suppose that may be a editorial issue and not necessarily the author's problem. I've put the book in my "recommended" bookcase.
Very Refreshing

I've read hundreds of martial arts books and often become bored with endless technique discussions. This book is the first I've read that actually offers a "whole life" perspective on the martial arts, not just what goes on in training. Intuitive readers will like it. Sensory readers will probably get lost.
