In a small Southern town, in Arkansas, an infant mysteriously died under the care of his 7 year old sister - thus begins a cycle of abuse, and destruction for a family. In Korea, desolation begins at birth and continues to shatter her childhood. Thinking things would be better, that her beautiful sister die, did not make her family would "love her." Instead devastation childhood worsened. In her early teens, she leaves her abusive childhood home, determined to be rich and come to America. In the African-American family, four generations are portrayed - they survive from a grandmother's strength, which she receives from God; from hope and from her silence. Though they migrate from the South, in search of a better life, poverty and oppression and tragedy follow them to Watts, in the midst of a major riot. Later in South Central Los Angeles, their culture colliding, in another riot. When an embittered Korean, now wealthy, with a similar background, comes into their lies, the family receive the ultimate humiliation.
