Till eighteen centuries, torsion was not paid so much importance by the designers. Torsion is also one of the paramount factors to be considered along with other basic structural actions such as axial force, shear force and flexure. But due to its complex nature and occurrence with other basic forces, the designers ignore it. The torsional effects cannot be ignored in the present-day design due to large torsional moments induced in structures because of modern architectural forms and critical safety factors used in design methods and slender sections arrived using high strength. With availability of high end computers and other soft computing methods, torsional parameters are now calculated accurately. With passing of age, the distressed structures need to be strengthened. FRP is now a days used as best strengthening material. Due to its cost effectiveness, FRP wrapping may not be suitable for developing countries.Why this book?
