Although this book is now very dated, it's still an interesting read. My grade school library owned the book when it was new and I must have checked it out 25 times. It explains the formation of tornadoes in easy-to-read children's English. The book also mentions weather technologies like Doppler radar, only its formative stages in the early 80s when this book was published. As weather geeks like me know, Doppler radar is a critical device in modern-day forecasting. It also includes the text of several tornado warnings as written by the National Weather Service. Its account of the Terrible Tuesday storms of 1979 are fantastic. But by far the book's best feature is its photography. There are many great tornado pictures here! If you're into tornadoes or just weather in general, this cost-effective purchase is well worth it. Children's Press had some great books back in the day, including this book, in its "Disaster!" series. Check out "Disaster! Hurricane" too.
