Amazing!

I loved this book. It was a roller-coaster of emotions, including irritation(for spoiler-y reasons), but so good. A solid second book, with a great setup that will keep you begging for the next book. The characters are very real, raw, and interesting, the relationships between couples and friends are beautifully written, and I can't wait to read more!

Fast-paced, Christian romantasy sequel

Torch is the second book in the Elemental Series by Sofia Simpson. This book continues the story of Vela Ashcroft and Lincoln Stevenson started in the book Terra. The story continues being told from the viewpoint of seventeen year old Vela who is connected to Linc (Lincoln) by a special Elemental bond. The story follows the pair on their journey to a hidden elemental community and through the changes, surprises, and friendships found there. The author tells the story through a strong Christian worldview, emphasizing the importance of prayer and relying on and trusting God through struggles. It was woven throughout the story without feeling shoehorned into the text as an afterthought. Sofia Simpson also does a good job of maintaining pace trough both action and emotional scences.

An Exciting and Thrilling Sequel!

I was so excited to continue Vela and Linc’s story! When Vela and Linc find themselves targeted by an Elemental Extremist group, they decide to run for their lives and find sanctuary at a secret community located in the woods of Canada. But crossing different elemental territories to get to this safe haven proves to be life threatening and difficult, Vela and Linc just barely make it there alive. Vela and Linc arrive to the secret community to find an elemental uptopia. There are mixed elemental couples, children with multiple elemental gifts, and all the elementals live in harmony together. In Vela’s eyes, it’s a dream come true and a glimpse of what the world could be. When one of the mixed elementals, a young man named Rayne, sets his eyes on Vela, and is determined to win her over, regardless of her bond with Linc. And Vela, though she loves Linc with all her heart, doesn’t know what to do or think. I enjoyed the growing love triangle dynamic between Vela, Linc, and Rayne. There are moments where Rayne makes Vela really look at herself and see her relationship with Linc from an outside perspective and there are moments where Linc reminds Vela of the strong intangible bond that they have. However, I think it was vital for both Rayne and Linc to have some kind of connection with Vela, as both show instances of their imperfections and wrong decisions, even though both have compassion and goodness in their hearts. Sometimes having competing suitors brings out the best and worst in characters, but it’s so necessary! I also love how relatable and authentic the struggles are that Vela and Linc go through as a couple, and how, through God’s love, they seek to understand and forgive even if it takes some time for each to work out their own inner thoughts and turmoil. The faith aspects continue to uplift and inspire me, and I am hanging on the edge of my seat, waiting for the next book so I can find out what happens!
