If you're familiar with Joel Whitburn's volumes of Billboard record chart data for the U.S., you have a pretty good picture of Nanda Lwin's book compiling the data from Canada's evolving, authoritative charts from 1975 to 1999 : artists, titles, debut date, peak position, weeks on chart, chronological listing of number one hits, chart trivia, etc. Lwin offers biographical notes for each entry, a nice feature. It's only too bad the period covered is so short (these charts only began in 1975). For data prior to this volume you'd be advised to seek out data from Toronto's CHUM charts (the book is out of print but the data can be found on the Web). Overall, Canada's chart hits differ only in minor ways from those of the U.S., but there are some interesting oddities and some native favorites to be found. Lwin's book is a top reference source for chart buffs and music hobbyists.
