Tony's Trip to the Babershop

By Dr Shelley Wheeler

Meet Tony, a young boy with autism who loves dinosaurs but feels anxious about getting his hair cut. New places, unfamiliar sounds, and unexpected experiences can sometimes feel overwhelming, turning a simple trip to the barber into a very big challenge.

When Tony visits AJ, a kind and patient barber who takes the time to understand him, everything begins to change. With gentle encouragement, a special dinosaur cape, and a lot of compassion, AJ helps Tony discover that bravery isn't about being fearless-it's about taking one small step at a time.

As trust grows between them, Tony learns that he is stronger than he thinks, and AJ is reminded that a little patience and understanding can make a world of difference. Together, they turn a stressful experience into a meaningful friendship built on kindness, acceptance, and respect.

Tony's Trip to the Barbershop is a heartwarming story that celebrates neurodiversity, inclusion, and the power of meeting children where they are. It shines a light on the unique strengths of children who may experience the world differently while encouraging empathy, understanding, and compassion in everyone around them.

Perfect for children ages 4-8, parents, caregivers, educators, therapists, and barbers, this uplifting story reminds us that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, supported, and confident enough to face new challenges in their own way and at their own pace.
