After a failed relationship in New York, a young mathematician returns to his hometown, a destitute place in Northern California, and tries to rebuild his life. Writing a diary to keep his OCD under control, while falling in love with a local girl named Audrey, he finds himself describing the odd events following a meteor crash in the vicinity of his town. At the crash site, amongst the crowd gathered, he can't see much, as the US Government has decided to pull the object out of Lake Tahoe as quickly as possible. This alien rock initially seems benign at first, but the effects of its presence on Earth soon reveals consequences beyond human understanding. Using his math skills and his knowledge of ancient Egypt and astronomy, along with his instincts, Ricky is determined to find out whether there's a link between the meteor crash and why a nine-year-old in his math class appears to have solved one of the seven Millenium Prize Problems. However, more and more strange signs are appearing.Furthermore, the turbulent relationship with Audrey betrays something at a far more galactic level that will, eventually, lead Ricky to discover his role and the true nature of the asteroid crash. The novel deals with themes of anxiety and alienation, and how resilient and powerful the human spirit can be in the face of adversity.
