In my pursuit of supporting others, I found myself exploring other instruments, all the while gaining an intuitive understanding rooted in the joy of learning and sharing. The turning point came as I observed relatives playing the ukulele alongside others playing the keyboard. A change in key disrupted the harmony, and one of my kin faltered. It dawned on me with an intensity that shook me to the core - there was no chord book in our country. Melodies and chords passed through generations via oral tradition, leaving a void. In April 2023, I decided to fill that void. With unwavering determination, I began to meticulously transcribe chords and scales. On May 1st, I stepped onto the digital stage, appearing on Facebook to play Tongan ukulele chords through songs. A few brave chords, each a step towards preserving a beautiful tuning known to only a handful in Tonga.
