a truly wonderful book

There is only one major flaw with this book. It has no scratch and sniff pages. If it did, you would be able to smell the olive oil, bread and those wonderful love apples. This is a book that will take you away from all of the stress in your life. this is a book full of romance, adventure and lust. What a perfect combination! Upon finishing this book, I wondered who is Adam Schell and when is his next book coming out?!!

fabulous book

Tomato Rhapsody is one of the most original books I have read in a long time. As a high school English teacher, I can't wait to teach this right after I teach "Romeo and Juliet". It is a wonderful comedic look at forbidden love. The history, the poetic prose, all of it wonderful. I highly recommend it.

Brilliant first novel

This is a charmingly delicious tale about forbidden fruit and forbidden love. I knew from the first page that I was going to enjoy the book, and I wasn't disappointed. The book is set in a tiny village in Tuscany in the 1500s. The villagers speak in rhyme, and the author occasionally speaks directly to the reader. I found it unique and intriguing and clever - the quirkiness reminded me a little of Northern Exposure. The story moved briskly along, the love story was beautiful and heart wrenching, and the supporting characters - in particular, the Good Padre - were very entertaining. And food (especially the tomato) plays a central role throughout. By the time the conflict hit its peak, I was so nervous about the outcome that I could barely stand to continue reading. I found the book thoroughly fun to read and recommend it highly. It's a bit bawdy for the younger set, but adults should love it.

Fantastic fantasy

Adam Schell creates a new and delicious recipe for the beloved tomato. In his new book, "Tomato Rhapsody" Schell cooks up a spicy tomato stew using ingredients such religion, tradition, greed, lust, prejudice, superstition, and forbidden love. The results: a fast paced delightful spoof, infused with humor, joy and a sense of the ridiculous.

Enjoyable Romp through 16th Century Tuscany

The journey to Tuscany starts on a wagon pulled by an old donkey with the Jewish grandfather and his grandson draped in brown monk's robes to conceal their identity. Schell takes us on this delightful ride introducing us to a varied and fascinating cast of characters. Clever plot twists intertwine these characters in unexpected ways and it all comes to a joyful resolution. I enjoyed the author's ability to mix in the rhyming of the villagers with the rest of the novels prose. The writing overall is colorful and filled with humor. TR is an enjoyable yet thought provoking novel. I would love to see it made into a feature film.
