On September 15, 1977, Edward Thomas Hardy was born in Hammersmith, London; his mother is an artist and painter named Elizabeth Anne (Barrett), and his father is a writer named Chips Hardy. He is of Irish and English ancestry. Hardy first attended Reed's School before growing up in East Sheen, London. With fellow Oscar contender Michael Fassbender, he completed his study at Tower House School, Richmond Drama School, and finally the Drama Centre London. He signed a temporary contract with the after winning a modeling contest at age 21.Tom battled criminality, alcoholism, and drug addiction during his teens and early 20s; after finishing Star Trek: Nemesis (2002), he sought therapy and has also acknowledged that his five-year marriage to Sarah Ward was destroyed by his addiction issues.
