A Book the Doesn't Slight the Girls!

Reviewed by Carolyn Howard-Johnson, award-winning author of This is the Place, Harkening: A Collection of Stories Remembered and The Frugal Book Promoter and a chapbook of poetry called Tracings Published by LB Kids, an imprint of Little Brown Co., this colorful book includes pop-ups (my perennial favorite from childhood), little pull tabs that make Todd's dog Benny pull him on his skateboard, and interactive spots like a spotted cat with a feely body. Even the cover has puffy, plasticy balloons to feel. What I liked best about this book, though, is it distributed the really fun things like hammering and camping out between the boys and the girls. No type-casting here. At $9.99 this would be an inexpensive little birthday party gift, but if your child's crowd spends a bit more you could also pick up a Who's Your Best Friend? or a Lights Out, Todd sticker book. The ISBNs on these are 0316057061 and 0316057045 respectively. Both utilize the same artwork--simple, kid-arresting primary colors. Let's Play Together! Adults and children.
