To Love & Be Loved: A Reluctant Immigrant Trilogy

The author originally set out to write an autobiography intended primarily for his family. But when others read the draft, they suggested it be published for the general public since the author's life is a compelling story. He has chosen the title To Love & Be Loved and divided the work into a trilogy.

It is the story of an immigrant reluctantly uprooted from his native land and transplanted in foreign soil which brought challenges but also success and happiness. His journey involved four countries and also a short period of anarchy, reflecting his own varied life of both chaos and peace.

Book 1, Pre-America Era, decribes the author's youth in Taiwan when it was a Japanese colony. He was born in 1937 into a prominent family which then fell into extreme poverty when the island was occupied by the Nationalist Chinese. The story includes his colorful and carefree youth, the endurance of America bombardment during WWII, and his determination to regain his family's past glory via education which was not detered by poverty. After this dream was crushed by the autocratic regime and the rejection of a marriage proposal to his love, he decided to go to America.

Book 2 covers the author's experiences in Amercia, and Book 3 deals with Enduring Love.
