Good Contemporary

Good story that grabs you. Norma Johnston fans will have fun trying to trace the family trees in this story -- the heroine is related to the Bridget Vandever, Tish Sterling and Alison Standish, heroines of Norma Johnston's excellent historical novels set in the Civil War era (Of Time and of Seasons/A Striving After Wind), turn of the 20th century (the Keeping Days series) and the 1920s, respectively. The Carlisle Chronicles (of which this is the second of three books) are much better than the average paperback teen novels, though not quite as deeply thought through as Johnston's famous historicals.
