Autumn, 2113: Anthony Lariske, a young doctor, is walking back home when he notices a black speck star to spread across the surface of the Moon. This phenomenon, later called the Darkening, slowly covers the entire Moon and spreads into the sky. No one is able to explain it or determine its cause. After a strange and accidental encounter at a hospital, Anthony becomes involved in the undertakings of a secret facility called LASDIEM. As the Darkening continues, a mysterious figure from LASDIEM's past returns, claiming to know what the Darkening is and wanting to stop it in order to prevent it from causing the next great mass extinction, one which would wipe humanity out forever if left to run its course. This is the story of how it came to pass.
