To Be a Missionary

In this collection of the author's personal missionary stories, you will cross oceans, learn how to live in other cultures, taste foods that you may never have imagined, find out what it's like to live in the middle of wars and famines, raise four happy children, and see God do miracles that change lives for eternity. You will be face-to-face with fanatical fighters, gangs of thieves, and hopeless people. Your job is to learn how to hear God's directions in every situation and then trust Him enough to do exactly what He says--or maybe die. The greatest challenge of all will be to know God yourself.

Africa, India, Indonesia, Lebanon, and Ukraine are some of the places described in these stories. There you will sail among tropical islands, climb snowcapped mountains, walk jungle trails, and meet wild animals. If you survive, you may have the opportunity to tell someone about Jesus. How will you do that? Then what happens? When you see the real God at work, it's worth everything you've ever known, including your very life.

This book is an opportunity for you to know what it's like to be a missionary.

Best Missionary biography I’ve read

As a former missionary to Haiti, China, and Taiwan I’ve read a lot of missionary books. But Jim Bethea is the kind of missionary/follower of God that I desire to be. He walks with God and listens and obeys even in situations that seem impossible. For instance back in Lebanon in the 90’s he was confronted by rifle waving fanatic young Muslim terrorists and before his certain death he asked God to show him how these terrorists looked to God - they were revealed as shining lights! Then Jim began to shout “I love you!” In Arabic and to speak Arabic much better than he could even understand himself. The results was peace and friendship and the beginning of worship of Jesus! I went to Jim’s home for worship once on the Sabbath before I ever knew he wrote this book and saw the Chinese horse painting from Hong Kong on the wall of the beautiful home he built. Hallelujah! Read parts to my grandchildren and they were enthralled. Gave a copy to my teenage granddaughter and she loves it! I just started reading Blackaby’s Experiencing God and the workbook begins with the miracle of God’s hand at the Vancouver Worlds Fair where an association of churches stepped out in faith - from Jim’s book it appears he was a crucial part of that outreach following Gods leading.
