Reviewed by Elizabeth A. Wheeler (1/06) Never Beat the Boss at Horseshoes is a book for adults who want to succeed in life. Roy Lantz's expertise in horseshoes not only brings a funny way to look at the game but compares it to life. "Whether you're the state champ or have never picked up a horseshoe, you'll learn to approach the game of life from a whole new perspective." I remember every summer my dad would break out the horseshoes and stakes, and put them up in the pit. Our family spent many nights pitching horseshoes and sometimes Dad would let me win. Just like Dad taught me you can't control a horseshoe, this book helped me realize, you can't control life but you can control your response. The "Quote-avation's" and true life stories have inspired and motivated me to be a better team player. Every one who wants to win the game of life needs to read this book. This book is a truly a ringer for learning how to succeed and winning this game we call life.
A wonderful find

Every once in a while a little gem comes along that that turns out to be a gold mine. This is the case with Never Beat the Boss at Horseshoes. This book is not about playing the game of horseshoes, it's about playing the game of life. It is full of 1 page, real life stories of how people chose to respond to what life has thrown at them. To paraphrase the book, we don't always have control over what happens to us, but we do always have control over how we respond to it. This book is about how people chose to respond to life in a positive manner and how that caused a positive effect on their lifes. It's a quick read that can last a lifetime. I read the entire book in one sitting. I now keep it next to my bedside. Every night, when I go to bed, I read one story. That way, the last thing on my mind when I turn out the light is a positive thought. You'll be amazed at how much better you sleep when your mind is dwelling on positive things. I highly recommend this one.
Give This Book to Someone You Care About. . .

Rough day, and need something positive to sleep on? Or, want a great little shot of enthusiasm to help start your day? "Never Beat the Boss. . ." is hard to beat on either count. Not to mention, it's just plain fun to read. In his latest book, Roy Lantz has done a masterful job of weaving the profound truths of life with mostly lighthearted (but some poignant) personal experiences and observations (and a couple of tongue-in-cheek "Quote-avations"), in a great little package that's kind of like the potato chip ad--"can't eat just one". Those one-page "Quote-avations" are so appealing that somemtimes you don't realize you've been taught something. Not preachy, often personal but universal, Roy shares his boundless optimism with the reader in every paragraph, showing how to reap the value of all of life's experiences, good and bad. The real treat is how Roy manages to equate the game of life with the game of horseshoes--and one particular game that changed his life. But I'll save that surprise for Roy to tell you about. You can't go wrong buying this book for someone special.
Get Valuable Tips While You Chuckle

Over the last couple of decades, educators and trainers have had to change their presentation style, whether they are speaking, directing a seminar or writing a book or article. No longer can we simply present information--no matter how valuable--in dry, pedantic fashion. Now our clients expect "edu-tainment," a mixture of learning and levity. In this fine book, Roy Lantz weds that combination admirably. You will learn valuable tips while you chuckle. Like many successful book authors, Lantz offers a "quick read," with short segments that you can browse on your lunch break or between appointments. I recommend this book highly. Follow Roy Lantz's advice, and you will score better in life and work.

In life you never know when or where you'll find a gem. In Never Beat The Boss at Horseshoes, Roy finds humor, insight and wisdom in the last place you might think to look, the game of Horseshoes! The book is segmented into very digestible chapters, or "innings," that draw from the author's own experiences and observations. Each contains inspirational "Quote-avations" that lend weight and direction to the content of each chapter. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to make a positive change in their life.
