I found this sweet tale at a Half-Price Books near my brother's house in Fort Worth. I bought a copy for my niece who is in first grade. She is very headstrong and tends to think everybody is just like her. It's a wonderful allegory and I thought it would help her realize that there is plenty of room in the world for people who might think or look differently. She has read it herself several times and now wants a cat just like Margo. She also told me last time I read it to her that her friend Alice, a Chinese adoptee, has become her best friend when she used to think she was as weird as Margo just because she doesn't look like everyone else in her class. These kinds of stories do a gentle, non-threatening job of teaching basic life skills, especially when there is so much diversity in American classrooms now.
