Fourteen-year-old Tio Everett is about to fall asleep when a crow crashes through her window with grave news: her name has been stolen. Without it, she will slowly begin to lose the memories of the people she loves.
To reclaim it, she must travel to the strange and dangerous world of Ovale, a land filled with dark forests, colossal mountains, and horrifying monsters. But as a girl suffering from social anxiety, just stepping outside her front door is a challenge in itself, let alone journeying across an unknown world.
As her memories hold on by a thread, all manner of creatures threaten to take her life. Tio eventually confronts the amalgamation of all of her fears: The Palace of People, a horrifying structure formed from the literal bodies of people.
