Tinea capitis (also known as ringworm) is a superficial dermatophyte infection of hair & scalp caused by Trichophyton & Microsporum. It is a disease of children & is more common in boys than girls due to easy implantation of spores in short hairs, and is not common in adults, but may affect immunocompromised patients, diabetes mellitus and women at the age of menopause. Types include: Scaly ringworm, black dot ring worm, Kerion and Favus.
