Timber Smiled: A Tahoma Tale

Jeb Zurquelle's first year at St. Michael's College is not going quite as he had anticipated. His freshman religion class, taught by his nemesis, Brother Russell, is a complete bore. He has just received the lowest grade in his life on his first mid-term paper. He hates the so-called "volunteer" work that the college is forcing him to do at the Puget Township Animal Shelter and he is wondering why he ever decided to attend a Benedictine college. Needing to blow off a little steam and gather his thoughts, he decides to take a walk along the Nisqually Delta. While hiking along the picturesque shores of the delta, he finds an emaciated yellow Labrador and her puppies. Little does he know; these dogs will change his life forever. Together they begin a journey up the Nisqually River facing floods and fires, threats and bullets, love and hate, and life and death. Through it all, Jeb gradually realizes that they are heading towards the source of the river and that blissful place called Elk Meadow.
