Tilly Mint and the dodo

Tilly mint tales is a fun fantasy book aimed at 8-11 year olds who like a bit of adventure and madness. I thought it was fun to read but in some parts it does drone on a bit. It had great description though and in each chapter it was really easy to imagine each weird and wacky place they went to. I also enjoyed the characters - they all had funny imaginative personalities. First there was Mrs. Hardcastlle an old lady that seems to be peculiarly magic. For instance she usually falls asleep whenever she takes Tilly out and that's when the magic happens! Then there is her mad brother Captain Cloud who gives Tilly the boat to go and find Mrs. Hardcastle. Of course there's the dodo whom we can't forget. He is a funny slightly thick animal that pops out of an egg that Mrs. Harcastle gave Tilly! He is the only dodo left though so when Tilly and dodo go exploring on Mrs. Hardcastle's island the rest of the animals think it a bit strange. Last of the characters and probably most important of all is Tilly-mint, She is a nice sensible little girl though at first Mrs. Hardcastles magic comes as a bit of a shock but she soon gets used to it. The end of the story is quite sad but everyone knows that it's inevitable.
