Grandma, what happened? asked Alyssa. Well, Dear, I think we just fell through the rug. said Grandma Emma, looking bewildered. Bu-but where are we? asked Alyssa, feeling a little frightened. I... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Who wouldn't want a grandma like Alyssa's Grandma Emma? Instead of competing in the Pillsbury Bakeoff, Grandma Emma has obtained an Honorary Degree in the Magic of Cooking from Harvey's College of Imaginary Arts. She thought it was a normal cooking class, but it turned out to be even better. She learned that she was limited only by her imagination. When I first started reading Through the Rug, I thought it would be a normal book, then I quickly realized that it would turn out to be even better. After turning her dog named Domino from black and white to hot pink and green, Grandma next turns to a recipe for doing something that we have all at one time or another wanted to do, create more days of the week. An accident during the experiment ends up taking Alyssa, Grandma, and Domino to the magic world of Wishville, where no long faces are tolerated and only happy people are allowed. The inter-generational fun only begins from there. Your child and you will both enjoy cooking up an afternoon's fun reading Through the Rug. The only drawback is that at a mere 94 pages, the fun ends too soon. About the reviewer: Kenneth R. Besser is a stay-at-home dad who is the author of Arnie Carver and the Plague of Demeverde

Reviewed by Brianne Plach (age 9) for Reader Views (7/07) What can be more exciting than going to visit Grandma's house? Ten-year-old Alyssa just loves to visit her Grandma's house. Her grandma is not just like everyone else. When her grandmother makes cookies, it's not just an event, it's an experiment. You could say Grandma is like a scientist, you never know just what will result. Domino is her cute, little, white and black dog; however, when Alyssa's father brings her to Grandma's house, Domino is now bright pink and green. There is a large spot of green goop on the rug which is a gateway to disaster. The dogcatcher is after Domino because of his strange colors. Grandma chases after the dog which falls into the puddle on the rug, followed quickly by Grandma. Alyssa doesn't want to be left alone, so she follows Grandma. Alyssa, Grandma and Domino are now entering the community of Wishville. This community is very strange as your every wish is granted. Wouldn't it be nice to have two extra days every weekend? Wishville is a wonderful place to visit. You can eat as much as you want. Sleep as much as you want. And you can wish as must as you wish. What will happen when the three of them want to return back to Grandma's house? Will they ever be able to return to Wishville if they fall back through the rug? "Through the Rug" is a hilarious book which had me laughing from cover to cover. I will never be able to look at a visit to Grandma's house the same way again. It makes me wish that I could visit another community by falling through my rug! Note from Brianne's mother: "Through the Rug" is a very imaginative book which will keeps kids entertained. There is truth in saying "be careful what you wish for" -- it just might happen with unexpected results. Brianne loves to visit one of her Grandma houses and bake cookies with her. They always have great adventures but from now on, they will be careful around rugs.

Looking forward to the sequal or (maybe even a Disney Movie...one day?). My daughter and I enjoyed reading this book together. We did not want to put it down and always wanted to know what was going to happen next... So now we are wondering what is going to happen next? We both enjoyed reading this fun filled adventure of a grandmother, her granddaughter, and her dog. Have to love the dog. The book was humorous and just as it comes to the end,...we did not want it to. Hope there is a second book soon........
Through the Rug

Alyssa really isn't looking forward to spending time with her Grandma. Her Grandma is so embarrassing. She's always doing such crazy things- like the time she wore her big cat slippers to the grocery store. Alyssa is in for quite the surprise. Grandma has been taking some cooking classes, special "magically" cooking classes. Grandma might not be the best cook in the world but she definitely cooks up some wild adventures. There simply won't be enough time in the day or days in the week to do everything on the girls' lists. Through the Rug is a fun magical adventure for young and young at heart. It brings together the generations in a way that true imagination can. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and hope that Alyssa and her Grandma continue their adventures in the future.
