His pacing was beginning to annoy her. She watched every anxious step back and forth across their tiny hut and found herself wincing at the sound of his boots connecting with the wood. Finally, she couldn't take it anymore.
"Axl, you need to stop."
The incessant feet obeyed for a moment, as gray eyes turned darkly upon her.
"It's been six months."
"I know." she coaxed. "But wearing grooves into our floor won't help anything."
He groaned and slammed into the nearest chair he could find. Slouched so far his knees were easily a foot from the seat, Axl gripped the arms with enough force to whiten his knuckles and brooded at the door opposite him. Nothing. Just like there had been nothing for six months. His foot tapped impatiently for exactly sixty seconds. Then he stood up and gathered his fur-lined trench coat from their rough kitchen table.
"Don't." she warned. "You can't interfere with the past. You know that."
He had already opened the door and blasted the entire cabin with icy wind, but he spun on his heels to retort.
"Fuck the past!" he snarled, sliding his coat on.
She opened her mouth to argue, but the door slammed instead, locking all common sense inside the hut with her. She sighed. If Axl didn't leave the present alone, there would be no one to use the dragon eye and prevent the Monohue boy from starting the apocalypse. The world would end... 700 years ago.
