Through a Land of Promise

In the 1920s and 1930s, Michael Terry undertook no less than fourteen expeditions through central and northern Australia by car, truck and later by camel. These expeditions opened up much of the previously untraversed country in Australia's "dead heart" and "top end, and are much sought-after by modern Australian outback 4WD travellers.

Through a Land of Promise describes in terrific detail the 1925 expedition from Darwin in the Northern Territory to Broome in Western Australia in Terry's typical Boys Own style, with his scientific mates, The Professor, Wag and the Joker. Out of print for 90 years, this new edition of Through a Land of Promise is a corrected paperback of the original 1927 edition, tables many illustrations and appendices.

Michael Terry was born in 1899 and served with the British Foreign Service in Russia in 1917. He emigrated to Perth in Western Australia and was the leader of fourteen inland Australia expeditions between 1923 and 1935.
