came in very good condition

This product was something I needed for school and it came quickly and in very good condition. I was very satisfied.

Comes in quite handy

A required text (and the main one too) for my first Creative Writing class, Three Genres does just what it advertises: analyzes, dissects, and discusses the aspects of writing and reading fiction/non-fiction, poetry, and drama. Written and compiled by Professor Stephen Minot, Three Genres serves as a very handy assistant to getting started in writing your own material, mainly thanks to Minot analyzing various stories and poems and dissecting them to the last detail. Minot also further delves into avoiding the pitfalls that plague newbie writers, which is in fact the most helpful part of the textbook. Of the various stories and poems collected here, there is material from Robert Frost, Allen Ginsberg, Shakespeare, John Updike, and Carole Oles among others; which nicely display the varying forms of literature and what one needs to tackle each genre of writing. All in all, for aspiring writers, Three Genres is a helpful and handy guide to get your feet off the ground, and should definitely be checked out by anyone and everyone interested in a career in writing.

Happy with my purchase.

The book I ordered was used but in very good condition. Thanks

Excellent Resourc

Three Genres is an excellent resource for beginning to intermediate creative writing students. It gives them the terminology they need to discuss written works and also includes many excellent examples in each genre. The book also includes some writing exercises, but the book is more of a scholarly resource. I've used it in my creative writing classes at the college level, and I haven't had the problems that other users describe regarding the "Don't do" lists. I rather like those. They help students avoid some of the pitfalls of beginning writers.

A Very Good Book

This book, which focuses on writing with subtlety and finesse, succeeds not only in discussing writing techniques but through careful study of poems, plays, and short stories, conveys reading techniques as well. Although the best, and really the only way to learn to write well is through practice, I highly suggest Three Genres to anyone who enjoys writing.
