Threads is a classic example of opening a book and falling in. Maggie and David have finally found each other; how they got there is the story. Maggie's perseverance and persistence in surviving and growing through obstacles that most kids never encounter is a story in itself. The new challenges in school and as an adult are ones that many a reader will say, "I've been there." The wonderful threading that St. Onge has done is really a triumph--for a first novel, I look forward to more from this talented author. Threads takes you on one woman's journey through life. Along the way there are people who help shape her life. Though some of the passages are painful to read because they feel so real, there is always a thread of hope and determination. I laughed, I cried and I finished the book with a sense of peace. This would be a great "book club" book!!

Patrice St. Onge tells a wonderful story through Maggie, the central character in this novel. This touching tale is of Maggie's life from childhood through her "miracle marriage" to David, and all the people she meets along the way who influence her life by leaving behind little pieces of themselves. Maggie weaves these into the tapestry of her life, and the beautiful way she describes each meeting will touch you!

"How do we become that which we are?" This initial question aptly summarizes the plot of this sequence of fictional accounts linked by philosophical musings, poetry, meditative-style journal entries and more. It's the story of people striving to be more than they are - somtimes with great dignity but more often than not through strength defying the deepest humiliations and indignities life can present. In fact, it's even hard to judge the characters for their faults so embedded are they in the thread of events that almost paralyses each character in its habitual, patterned repertoire of verbal and emotional reactions. Such is th stuff of lifetime cycles. What makes this novel unique are the musing and determination of each character to believe in hope, to defy the previous destructive cycle with rebellion that might entrap a person but might also free that person. Maggie is probably the main character for most of the novel who leads her family to a different solution to age-old problems of poverty, low self-esteem, and vision snuffed out by suffering. However, age, looks, location personality, etc. - nothing is predictable in this beautiful tapestry that this very talented author weaves. The end result is astonishing, to say the least! Potent, poignant, and amazing! See if you don't find a piece of yourself herein. Vivane Crystal Crystal Reviews
