""Thoughts on Preaching: Being Contributions to Homiletics"" is a book written by James W. Alexander, a prominent theologian and pastor. The book is a collection of essays and lectures on the art of preaching, aimed at providing guidance and insights to preachers and ministers. Alexander draws on his extensive experience as a preacher and teacher to offer practical advice on topics such as sermon preparation, delivery, and audience engagement. He also reflects on the spiritual and ethical dimensions of preaching, emphasizing the importance of humility, sincerity, and faithfulness to scripture. The book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in improving their preaching skills or gaining a deeper understanding of the role of preaching in the Christian faith. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
There are many volumes on preaching, but I have not found one as edifying as this. Yes, the structure is awkward, because it is a collection of thoughts and letters, as suggested by the title. However, the gems of Alexander's thought shine so brightly it is the most valuable resource I possess in this field. There are other books on homiletics organized by an editor into rather standard formats, but none of them are written by James Waddel Alexander. In addition, the handy size makes it quite nice for taking along and re-reading in spare moments.
