Hindu Cosmology and Murder Thriller

I found "Thoughts of God" to be well-crafted and engaging, with a unique form. Unlike another reviewer who saw this novel as presenting components of Christian cosmology, I found the novel to follow more closely Hindu cosmology and the writings of Meher Baba. Note that in the Hindu/MeherBaba view, the hell state, as well as heaven, is not forever; it's just another condition and then earthly life begins again in another incarnation. Compare the movie "Made in Heaven." In any case a novel is not a book of theology or divine scripture. A novel tells a story, conveys emotion, maybe gives food for thought. This novel succeeded in those things.

Kanaly Strikes a Homer!

THOUGHTS OF GOD is one of the most brilliant and ambitious novels I've read in the last three years. This is no rehashing of typical ideas. It is a courageous, original investigation into why we are who we are, how we make choices, why some of us tend to loose our souls along the way. At the same time, it is an on-the-edge-of-your-seat thriller. I couldn't put it down. The writing is masterful and the story not only is thought provoking, but it stays with you--urging you to think bigger, be bigger--love and live more fully. Keep writing, Michael Kanaly!

Just Open Your Mind.

I didn't know it would be an interesting book, nor did I expect to care so much about its characters. "Thoughts of God" is so much more than anyone would expect. Above all else, I think it was a comparison--our world with countless others, and bridging it all...God's thoughts. Read it with an open mind.

Interesting thoughts of God....

Okay, I thought this book was one of the few science fiction books that could be unparalleled by any other. However, reading some of the critics thoughts of this... I tend to agree. Being blindsided, going back and forth from points of views (from the killler and the bounty hunter) to the very notebook of the experimenter (God) was just a tad out of it. I'm still not sure if I understood what all the author was trying to tell me. The action, suspence, and the need to know kept me reading the book. Even bad books get this treatment from me. I did truly enjoy this book and recomended it to a few others. "Metaphyical novel of murder" seems to sum up what this book is about. How can God (or any other supreme being for that matter) be so callous as to just sit by and watch his creation, Man, be destroyed because of either the souls not intergrating well into humans, or the soul not being recognized at all by the 'mechanism' or the soul not being present at all, as in Arnie's case. But that is the way some of us see it. He would allow us to be hurt and in pain and killed because it is His plan. We have no control of our destiny. Perhaps we do, but it is still part of His plan. He just wants to know if we will destroy ourselves or if we will prosper and mature into the next stage of evolution, whatever that may be. If that is what the author was saying, then I actually read what the meaning of what the Thoughts of God were all about. But if it isn't, it's just my point of view then.

An incredible tale of suspense, with a bit of SF mixed in.

Aptly sub-titled "A Metaphysical Novel of Murder", this was possibly one of the most disturbing, and most fascinating books I have read in the past few months. The subject matter was personally repugnant, but I couldn't put the book down. It is a mix of storylines from Andrew Vaachs and James Morrow; hard to categorize and reveling in it's own individuality. The multiple layering of stories of "the hunt" and the grand experiment of allowing souls to take corporeal form in mankind allows for parody and pasquinade of great complexity -- letting the reader find their own interpretations and meaning within the "Thoughts of God." An incredibly good book that will give you plenty to ponder upon
