Thoughts From a Transitional Pastor

By: Reinhard, Paul Martin

If a Transitional Pastor does their work well the new incoming Pastor can enjoy a delightful honeymoon. But being a successful Transitional Pastor is no easy task. If a movement, network, or denomination suggests a Transitional Pastor to a local congregation it is highly possible there are issues needing to be addressed. It has been said that "Only babies like change and even then they cry." A faithful Transitional Pastor may end up engaging staff, worship, children's departments, and obstinate board members. If the church is stuck in the past they may speak vision to the future. If the church is divided they may need to speak strong words calling for unity.

Dr. Reinhard has served as a Director of Youth and Evangelism, Associate Pastor, Lead Pastor, and Transitional Pastor. He has served nine churches and a chapel in three states over his 47 years as a Christ follower. Paul has ministered in Mexico, India, and Africa. He continues to train pastors by Zoom and teach his JumpStart series.

In this work Paul shares many experiences pertaining to the work of Transitional Pastoring. Paul is committed to aligning the local church with the person, word, and work of Jesus to the best of his God given ability. The better the alignment between Jesus and the church the easier it will be for a new Pastor to find their place. Paul has done his best to be honest. Paul loves the Lord and His church but has seen first hand how dysfunctional church members can be. In a forthright manner Paul paves the way for those seeking to serve in the capacity of a Transitional Pastor. His insights will prepare the new Transitional and encourage the one in the midst of the battle.
