Michael experiences combat in Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. He witnesses the destruction of the German cities and after the war serves in Germany as part of the occupation military.

Michael's is an odyssey hoping to find the brother he had believed he never had. He wants to finally have a brother. How does his searching end? What effect does Michael's experiences in the war shape his thinking about combat and war?
