"This Side of the Shadows -- For Anji" was written during the transition period in the author's life following the loss of her husband to his illness and subsequent personality changes, as described in her initial book, "The Curse of the Good Samaritan, When Death Comes Anyway." While exploring her future and rebuilding her life, she met a beautiful young woman who was extremely distraught by the betrayal of the man she had come to believe would become her husband and the father of her children. When the young woman committed suicide as a way to escape the pain of his betrayal, the author found herself challenged to renew her efforts to find the path out of her own pain and grief. As she wrote of the experiences that promised this new life, she began to heal and find the goodness that was being offered in family, friendships and new interests as she moved into "This Side of the Shadows." When the book was complete, she decided to dedicate it to her friend who did not succeed in moving towards "This Side of the Shadows."
