A genuinely engaging companion book to a beloved TV series
Published by Arti , 1 month ago
This book serves as a printed companion piece to the first season of This Old House. This book is intended not only to serve as an additional narrative, but as a guide for homeowners wishing to engage in a serious home renovation.
The book is chaptered to follow the 13 weeks of programs in the inaugural season of what has become an American institution, This Old House. In 1978, producer Russ Morash was inspired to create a different kind of TV show for the local PBS station in Boston- one that showed the process of rehabilitating a dilapidated home into viable housing in a market in dire need. Various tradesmen would use a variety of techniques to restore this house to liveable condition as local designer/developer Bob Vila provided energetic narration (as well as the homeowner's perspective). Not only do we see a more expansive narrative in the book than was available to us in 30 minute segments, we also are provided with illustrations, as well as instructions on how to replicate many of these methods. This book could easily serve as an easy to understand reference guide for significant home improvement projects.
It's also, honestly, incredibly entertaining- especially if you enjoy seeing how things work/are made or other processes.
