In This is Why You Know Me, I recall saving money and dropping my life in 2015 and exploring a journey from Boston, down the east coast, and west to Phoenix in a three-month solo car ride. In twenty-one essays, I anecdotally detail meeting up with estranged family and friends and Couchsurfers, and each of them provided me with 21 stories that I would love to share with you. More than once, I was in cities and towns, hundreds of miles from home, where I knew no one particularly well. Something can be said for not seeing a familiar face for months; something else can be said for only seeing the same faces for a few days before never seeing them again. These stories I've written show myself and readers that this country is whole, but each individual state is almost like it's own unique country.
