What a day at school...

This fun and colorful book uses rhyming poetry to describe a teacher's nightmare of school day misfortune. The silly, repetitive story progresses from the beginning of a school day to its end--including a long series of ridiculous events gone wrong that are almost believable to all who have had a challenging day at school. It is definitely a day gone badly for the teacher, but one that most students would relish. In reading this book, I was excited for each turn of the page to see what could possibly happen next. The text and illustrations are engaging and tie together well. While the book is definitely fun and has many elements of entertainment, it also includes many educational elements as well. The rhyming can be used to demonstrate poetry in a fun way. The repetitive progression of the tale is also a useful tool for teaching children sequencing of events within a story. This yarn is thoroughly enjoyable in its goofiness, but includes a wealth of teaching opportunities. It is definitely worth the read.

No teacher can be without

This is one book that should be required reading for all teachers--and principals as well. This is the Teacher is a chaotically (but absolutely perfectly) illustrated day in the life of a teacher where everything that could go wrong does. Written along the frame of This is the House that Jack Built, it makes a great read aloud and memory game for children in elementary and middle school. With the barfing pupil, escaped pets, clogged water fountain, and dropped cupcakes, all teachers will find something they can relate to. As a gift to a principal, it is a not so subtle reminder of all trials and tribulations that teachers must deal with on a daily basis. It is also the perfect ending when read aloud on the first day of school. However you see it, it is hysterical, sure to be enjoyed by all.

Great book!

I got this book not too long ago at the Scholastic book fair. I am very glad I got this book because it is entertaining and fun to read. My nieces love to read it! Every teacher/student teacher should have one for their collection :)

a new favorite for first day of school

This story makes my favories list for several reasons. The story told in rhyme and the collorful action filled illustrations make it hold kids attention better than the old favorite of Miss Nelson is Missing. It also portrays a day where everything goes wrong for the teacher, a grown up version of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. All teachers should read this book :)
